François Hippolyte Lalaisse
  • Biography

Hippolyte Lalaisse taught drawing at the École Polytechnique from 1839 until 1877 and also made designs for lithographs. He was strongly influenced by Géricault, both directly and by way of his teacher, Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet, so it is not surprising that horses figure prominently in his work. The illustrations to the successful 1850 publication, Atlas statistique de la production des cheveaux en France, were based on Lalaisse's drawings.
