    Born in San Jose, Uruguay, in 1934, Hugo Sartore began to study painting at the age of twelve at the atelier of the Municipal Museum in Montevideo and years later worked in the constructivism atelier of Torres-Garcia. In 1956, He traveled to Europe on a scholarship. During his stay in Paris, Sartore joined a group of artists that were working with Poliakof. Here He studied Oriental Art and Orfism. He also visited the atelier of Andre Lhote and was familiar with the artwork of R. Delaunay in a restropective exhibition at the Contemporary Museum of Paris.
