    Hugo Wetli first completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman in Bern, before completing an apprenticeship as a graphic designer in Bern and Geneva.

    He was employed as a draftsman in a Bernese animated film studio, then worked for the in-house magazine of a Geneva industrial company and finally changed from 1949 to 1956 as head of the graphic workshop of a men's clothing company in Olten. His successor was Hans Küchler. In 1956 he opened his own studio and had the airline Swissair as the main client. But he also illustrated numerous travel books.

    Wetli did not begin to paint until the 1950s and has since turned more and more to painting. He was recognized as an important Swiss landscape painter, but also left behind figurative...
