    Hugo Olof von Hofsten (1865 - 1947)

    A successful illustrator in America, Hugo von Hofsten was born to an aristocratic family in Karlskoga, Varmland, Sweden. He trained at the Royal Academy in Stockholm, and then immigrated to New York City in 1885 where he worked as an illustrator on The Graphic.

    He moved to Chicago in 1893 to do illustrations for The Evening Post, The Journal, and The Tribune. In 1895 he headed the illustration department for The Times Herald.

    After 1906 he illustrated children's books and painted landscapes.
