Ion Jalea - Artist Info

About Ion Jalea

  • Biography

Ion Jalea completed his artistic education in Paris, at the Julian Academy, where he worked with professors Paul Landowski and Henri Bouchard. However, their academic style does not offer him the role models he was searching for, as he rather found that vivid and troubled art, which he aimed to accomplish himself, in the art of Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle.

Throughout his career, he won the Paris and Barcelona Exposition Universelle Grand Prize, the National Sculpture Prize in 1941, the State Prize in 1957, and, on the same year, the People's Artist title.
