  • Biography

Irene Stry worked in Provincetown and Truro from the 1930's to the 1950's. She often signed her works "Clair", in addition to I. Stry. She exhibited at the Society of Independent Artists* in New York in 1937-38.

She is best known for her impressionist seascapes and landscapes of Cape Cod, especially of Provincetown and Truro. She was also noted for her colorful still life.

She was married to fellow artist, Eric Stry who trained at the National Academy of Design. In 1923, she emigrated with her husband to the United States, arriving in Boston with the full name of Kaethe "Kay" Irene Augenstein Strueh. Naturalization and census records show that she was born December 24, 1904, but her grave site gives the birth date of 1899.
