Ivald Granato Filho is a painter, engraver, draughtsman and multimedia artist. He studied painting with Robert Newman in 1966. He then spent a brief period at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Ivald Granato began painting at an early age, drawing his inspiration from Cubist works. During the 1970s, he produced works which presented visceral or phallic images. Granato works with rapid brushstrokes, creating figures with imprecise outlines, associated with signs, graffiti, graphisms and blotches.
