    Ivar Gustav Fernlund (1881 – 1933)

    An important Canadian duck decoy carver, Ivar Gustav Fernlund was born in Sweden, moved with his parents to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1885, and was transferred to Hamilton, Ontario by Westinghouse, the company he worked for, in 1906. He moved to Burlington Beach (about 8 miles northeast of Hamilton) in 1914. Fernlund’s life-like decoys frequently achieve auction prices in the thousands of dollars and one pair of hollow carved pintails sold for over $170,000.00 USF (see askART). Two of his carvings are in the permanent collection of the Canadian Museum of History [National Capital Region].
