    Jackoposie Oopakak (1948 – 2015) (1)

    A prominent Inuit* Canadian sculptor, carver, and jewelry maker, Jackoposie Oopakak (disc number* E6-539) was born at a hunting camp (Qipisa is mentioned by one source) near Cumberland Sound on the southern end of Baffin Island. He spent his early years living the traditional Inuit nomadic lifestyle. In the early 1970s he moved to Frobisher Bay (now Iqaluit) to study Jewelry making where he spent the rest of his life and died. His sculptures are in the permanent collections of several important museums including the Canadian Museum of History and the National Gallery of Canada.
