    Jakob Hägg was taught in drawing and the use of watercolor, graphic techniques and oil as early as his time at school. He joined the Cadets School in Stockholm in 1857 and passed the officer’s exam in 1862. He was then active in various functions in the Navy, until he retired in 1904 and began to work as a naval historian, author and museum director.

    Parallel to this Hägg was a professional artist from 1860, already. His central motifs were always sailing ships and boats from different periods, rendered with the greatest attention to detail and historical accuracy. He painted works in oil and watercolor, but also produced etchings and drawings.
