Jacques Nestlé was born in 1907 in Saarbrücken. In 1925 he moved to Berlin where he was influenced by the Bauhaus school and the avant-garde artists of the time such as Kandinsky and Paul Klee.

In 1933, he left for France and joined many artists in Paris, where the revolution in modern art had already been underway since the mid-19th century. In Paris, Henri Matisse noticed his works, encouraged him and inspired him for a long time.

Subsequently, the art dealer and collector, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, wanted to promote it as he did with Picasso, Braque, Derain or Gris. Jacques Nestlé, who said of him that he is "neither a painter nor an artist, simply a man who paints", did not follow up on Kahnweiler's proposal.
