About James Downie Robertson

  • Biography

    James Downie Robertson (1931-2010)

Born in 1931 in Scotland, he studied at the Glasgow School of Art. "All my paintings using oil and gouache are to do with landscapes and seascapes and are based on observation and memory, and are used as a starting point to create works involving colour, light and atmosphere. These works are all created in the studio and are the result of personal vision and a vocabulary achieved over many years of studio practice." (Quote from glasgowartclub.co.uk)

In 1967, he was a full-time lecturer in Drawing & Painting at the Glasgow School of Art, and a Senior Lecturer in Drawing & Painting from 1975 to 1996.

James Downie Robertson died in 2010.
