    Jan Hrynkowski was born in 1891. Hrynkowski was a painter, graphic artist, and stage designer. In 1913 he graduated from the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied painting with Józef Pankiewicz and sculpture with Konstanty Laszczka. During World War I he fought as a soldier of the 1st Brigade of the Polish Legions. In the years 1921-1926 Hrynkowski stayed in Paris and at the André Lothe Academy he completed his studies in the field of decorative painting. Hrynkowski took an active part in the artistic life of Krakow and from 1917 he belonged to the Formists group, was a member of the Jednoróg (1925) group, and was co-founder and long-term president of the Krakow Association of Artists.
