    Jane Ash Poitras B.Sc., B.F.A., M.F.A., B.A. (Hon.), LL.D (Hon.), D.Litt (Hon.), R.C.A. (1951)

    An important Canadian painter and printmaker, and an influential educator and member of the fine art and aboriginal community; Jane Ash Poitras was born in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta and lives in Edmonton, Alberta. Her art and life are discussed in virtually all the recent comprehensive books about Canadian modern art and aboriginal modern art. Her works have been exhibited widely in Canada and around the world. She is the recipient of numerous honors and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Examples of her art are held in the permanent collections of over two dozen Canadian museums including the National Gallery of Canada. (1)
