    Janus la Cour was a Danish artist who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen after taking private lessons with Frederik Christian Kiaerskou and Vilhelm Marstrand. He was most successful with his landscapes and received several travel grants from the Academy. In 1868, he was granted his last scholarship which took him to Italy, to Capri, via Switzerland.

    He traveled to France and Italy in 1865-67 and returned several times. La Cour exhibited at the Copenhagen academy in 1855 and later in Paris, London, Chicago, and Munich. In 1871, he won the Thorvaldsen medal. He is known for his landscape paintings.
