    Jean Chapin was born on February 21, 1896 in Paris, France. He studied at l'École Boulle. He also attended l'Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.

    Chapin's first paintings date to 1913, but this work was interrupted by World War I. Chapin exhibited in Paris between 1926 and 1955 when he retired.

    He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants and became member in 1919. He also showed work at the Salon d'Automne, Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Salon des Tuileries, and Salon de la Marine.
