    A son of the lush fields of Ukraine, Jan Peske of the Borderlands has panache and a firm temperament. (Woroniecki E., Jan Peske. Master of Trees and Temples, "Tecza" 1929, no. 12, p. 5) Jan Miroslaw Peszke, also known in French as Jean Peské, was a representative of the École de Paris and the École Post-Impressioniste. Described as the "poet of trees" and the "forester of painting," he passionately devoted himself to depicting the diverse beauty of nature on canvas. He was born in 1870 in Ukraine to a landowning family. After graduating from high school in Kiev, in 1885 he began his artistic training at the local painting school under the landscape painter Mikolaj Murashko.
