Jean-Pierre Schmid, better known by his stage name Lermite, was born in 1920 and began his artistic training in 1938 at the École d'Art in Biel, where he got to know German Expressionism and International Constructivism. As early as 1942 he exhibited at the Kunsthaus Zürich with the association of modern Swiss artists, the "Allianz".
