About Jean Seidenberg

Name variants

Jacob Jean Seindenberg, Jean Seindenberg
  • Biography

Born in Brooklyn in 1930, Jean Seidenberg immersed himself in the New York art scene from an early age. In 1951, he moved to New Orleans where he focused primarily on portraiture. His depictions of his subjects are alternately loving and unrelenting, a delicately balanced approach to the human figure.

"Leslie" is presented as both vulnerable in her nakedness, yet dignified in the sharpness of her determined gaze. Her fine features, so elegantly captured, project off of the simple warm yellow canvas, an illuminated halo of sorts that succeeds in softening the starkness of her form.
