  • Biography

    Jean-Baptiste Millet, a painter born in Gréville-Hague on June 17, 1830, died in Auvers-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise) in 1906.

He was the youngest brother of the painter Jean-François Millet (1814-1875), seventeen years younger, who influenced him a lot. Jean-Baptiste was first his pupil, and then his neighbor in Barbizon (Seine-et-Marne).

Like his older brother, Jean-Baptiste painted and drew many scenes of peasant life. He engraved several works of his illustrious brother.

In 1876, a dozen of Jean-Baptiste's watercolors appeared at the second impressionist exhibition organized at the Durand Ruel Gallery in Paris.

He is buried in Auvers-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise).
