Jerzy Panek studied at the Graphics Department of the State Institute of Fine Arts in Krakow, which was renamed Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule Krakau during the war. After the war, he studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Kraków, and then at the Academy of Fine Arts under Eibisch and Pronaszko. He dealt with painting and graphics and from 1952 mainly with woodcut. He dealt with painting and graphics and from 1952 mainly with woodcut. At the beginning he used sketch and photography as an auxiliary, then his graphic work was influenced by a trip to China in 1956 - he started to engrave directly on the boards. At the turn of 1967/1968 he was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, many years later he became its honorary professor.
