Born in 1984 in Malabon City, Cruz earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Far Eastern University in Manila and pursued further studies in design at De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde. Early in his career, he was recognized as a finalist in the Metrobank Art & Design Competition and the Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards, distinctions that signaled his emergence as a formidable force in contemporary Philippine art.

Cruz has since exhibited extensively in both local and international venues.
