Jim Vest was born in 1939.  Jim Vest was born in Durham City, England where he attended both the Sunderland College of Art 1960-1964 (National Diploma in Design - special subject: painting) and the Manchester College of Art and Design 1964-1965 (Art Teacher’s Certificate & Diploma).  He continued to study and paint in the London area until moving to Canada in 1969 to teach art in the Edmonton school system.  Desiring to pursue his craft further, he left teaching in 1980 to paint full time.
