    The Greek-Austrian sculptor Joannis Avramidis is one of the sculptors of the 20th century whose central motif has been human beings throughout their life - also in the works that appear largely abstract. Based on an intensive examination of Greek antiquity and the theory of proportions of the Renaissance, his main concern is the search for a generally valid representation of the human figure. Two important groups of works deserve special mention: The block-like groups of figures and the head sculptures, to which the present work, designed in 1969, belongs: Two bodies stacked on top of one another, simple, angular and massive, mounted on a thin, bronze base plate.
