In some ways his cartoon character Kid Currycomb reflects the desires of his creator. Beyond the fact that De Yong's pseudonym as editor of the Eatons' Dude Ranch newsletter, Wranglin' Notes, was Kid Currycomb, De Yong always desired to be a cowboy.
