In 1633/34, while serving as an assistant of Peter Paul Rubens, Boeckhorst became a free master of the Antwerp guild of St. Luke. In 1635 under the guidance of Rubens, he collaborated with Jacob Jordaens on a work created to commemorate Cardinal Infant Ferdinand's entry into Antwerp.
