    Johann Christian Schoeller’s watercolours of episodes regarding theater, folk life and fashion in Vienna have always some humorous and satirical connotation, sometimes even critical of times. Schoeller mainly produced watercolours and drawings for the "Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung” and its series such as the "Gallerie drolliger und interessanter Scenen der Wiener Bühnen" and "Theatralische Bilder-Gallerie" of Adolf Bäuerle. The artist’s work also includes scenery designs such as for Johann Nestoy’s "Freiheit in Krähwinkel" and caricatures of "Biedermännern auf den Barrikaden".
