About Johann Heinrich Ramberg

  • Biography

Johann Heinrich Ramberg was a painter for both the King and the people. From 1781 to 1788, Ramberg studied at B. West London. In 1793, after he returned from his three-year stay in Italy, he was appointed painter for the Royal Court and Cabinet in Hannover.

Ramberg's real talent lay in the graphic improvisation in which he could express his lively sense of humor and satire most uninhibited. After the death of Chodowiecki, Ramberg was the most sought-after illustrator in Germany.
