    Johann Sperl was a pupil of Arthur Georg von Ramberg and was known for his realistic art conception. In 1873, he painted the genre scene "Wedding Procession on the Swabian Alb" which depicted a farmhouse in Betzingen near Reutlingen. Sperl traveled to Betzingen during the summer months to study traditional single houses that combined living quarters, stable, and barn under one roof. He created several views of these houses, which were completely committed to the realistic art conception of the Leibl circle. Sperl's house facades were compelling for their frontal immediacy and simplicity.
