John Allan - Artist Info

About John Allan

  • Biography

Born in Coatbridge, Scotland, John Allan studied at Glasgow University from 1911-1915 where he graduated with a Master of Arts degree before being called up for the war.

After the end of hostilities, he took up painting, trying a variety of styles, his work being reminiscent of Samuel Peploe and John Fergusson amongst others.

His seascapes and landscapes of his native country were very ‘Scottish’ in style although his work was rarely seen in public since he preferred not to sell his pictures but rather to gift it to friends and family.

He is considered to be a rare Scottish hidden talent.
