    Carrying on the storied tradition of more than 300 years of British sea painters, John Bentham-Dinsdale is an exacting scholar of the famous ships of the past. His passion finds its focus in mainly oil paintings of the great clippers and sailing warships of the 19th century.

    Bentham-Dinsdale studied architecture and design at Leeds University, and went on to serve as the head of design for a British television company in Tyne. He also was a commissioned officer and pilot in the royal air force during World War II. It is written that he has always painted, but took to his brushes as his sole occupation in 1965.
