About John Coppin

    John Coppin was born in Mitchell, Ontario. Settling in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, he became a prominent portrait painter, muralist, and illustrator. As Director of "AAA Motor News" magazine, he was noted for his covers of this publication that was the forerunner of "Michigan Living" magazine.

    His portrait subjects included actor Sir Alec Guiness, artist Sadakichi Hartmann, General Motors President James M. Roche, automobile tycoon Henry Ford, and four Michigan governors. The Hartmann portrait is in the National Gallery in Washington and his mural, "Man and Transportation" is in the Detroit Public Library.
