    John Nichols Haapanen - teacher and painter of landscapes, coastal scenes, rivers, harbors, and boats - was born in Niantic, CT on October 13, 1891. His listed address for the years 1929, 1934, and 1936 is Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

    Haapanen studied art with Ernest Lee Major (1864-1950), W. F. Brown, and Anson Kent Cross (1862-1944). He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Copley Society in Boston, MA and taught at Tufts University in Medford, MA and Dean Academy in Franklin, MA.

    According to family research, the artist died May 1968, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
