John Nixon is an Australian artist, born in 1949, who trained at the Preston Institute of Technology and the Melbourne National Gallery School of Art. He represented Australia at Documenta 7 in Kassel, Germany in 1982 and founded the artist-run space Art Projects in Melbourne. He was also the director of the Brisbane Institute of Modern Art in 1980-81. Nixon's practice included installation, collage, photography, and video, and his works are held in major Australian state museum collections and in public collections in several countries. John died in 2020.
