    Josep Amat was a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1901. He trained at the Llotja School in Barcelona and was a disciple of Joaquim Mir. Amat's first group exhibition was in 1922, and he had his first solo exhibition in 1928. He exhibited individually in the most important galleries in Barcelona and won prizes in the Barcelona Spring Salon and National Exhibitions. Amat traveled to Paris for the first time in 1933 and became known there in 1936 when he showed his art in a group exhibition.

    During the Spanish Civil War, he was forced to give up plein air painting and began a period centered on figures and interiors. Amat won several awards, including the José Ramón Ciervo prize at the Second Havana Biennial of Hispano-America...
