    José Gutiérrez de la Vega was a Spanish artist who lived during the Romantic period. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville and became known for his portraits, which were characterized by vivid tones and flesh tones reminiscent of Murillo. He also made a living by making copies of Murillo's work. Gutiérrez de la Vega was an academician of merit at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts and was appointed director of the Seville School of Fine Arts.
