José Lupiáñez was a Spanish artist born in Malaga. He received his artistic training at the San Telmo School of Fine Arts in Malaga and later studied at the Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in Madrid under Carlos de Haes. Lupiáñez exhibited his works individually and collectively, and participated in various national and international exhibitions, receiving honourable mentions in some of them.

He was known for his intelligent pasiajistic concept and prolonged the influence of Carlos de Haes over time, giving landscape painting a rare importance in Spain at the time. Lupiáñez's works can be found in the Provincial Museum of Lugo and various national and international private collections.
