    Josef Hoffmann was born in 1870 and died in 1956. He studied architecture under Otton Wagner in Vienna, Austria. Along with Kolo Moser he co-founded "'Wiener Werkstätte" in 1903, and directed it since its founding until 1931.

    Austrian architect and designer of consumer goods. He studied at the Higher State Crafts School in Brno beginning in 1887 and after that at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna by Karl von Hasenauer and Otto Wagner. Together with Koloman Moser he was a founding member and one of the main representatives of the Wiener Werkstätte. In addition to it, Hoffmann has been very successful as an architect: 1904 building and interior decoration of the Purkersdorf Sanatorium, 1905-11 building of Palais Stoclet in Brussels, 1907 Interior decoration of Kabarett Fledermaus in Vienna.
