About Josef Stoitzner

  • Biography

Austrian painter and graphic artist, Josef Stoitzner studied at the Academy of Arts in Vienna from 1906 to 1909. At that time he also became a member of the Vienna Secession, where he would regularly have the opportunity to exhibit his works. After studying, Stoitzner was active as a teacher and later, in 1932, he was offered a lecturing position by his former academy institution.

Parallel to his job, Stoitzner built up a large collector’s base, which he initially provided with Art Nouveau woodcuts. Stoitzner’s mature oeuvre included still lifes, landscapes and interiors that were not inspired by avant-garde movements, but unveiled his fascination for the Salzburg region.
