  • Biography from Crait + Müller

The artist's name is Joseph Bernard. He created a model of a dancer on tiptoe in 1905, which he used three times to create his famous Dance of the Roses group. The isolated figure with a long drape enveloping the reverse, represented here, is one of the three figures. The other two are the Nude Dancer and the Dance of the Roses. Adrien-Aurélien Hébrard managed the marketing of small sculptures by Joseph Bernard since 1908. The first bronze of La Danse des Roses was presented at the Salon d'Automne in 1912, but the casting of the individual figures was not undertaken until 1914.

According to the author of the artist's 1989 catalog raisonné, the number of copies published by Hébrard is eight.
