    Joseph Archibald Browne RCA, OSA, CAC (1862 – 1948)

    An important Canadian painter, Joseph Archibald Browne (aka: Archibald Browne) was born in Liverpool, England; raised in Blantyre, Scotland; came to Toronto, Ontario in 1888; and died in Cornwall, Ontario. He also lived in Lake placid, New York (1921 – 1922); Montreal, Quebec (1923 – 1927); and, Lancaster, Ontario (1927 – 1948). He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts* and the Ontario Society of Artists*. Dozens of his paintings are in the collections of major Canadian museums including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Gallery of Canada. (1)
