    Kenya's Craziest Bar is a fine example of Joseph Bertiers' famous bar paintings taking the disreputable bar as their central theme and portraying with gusto ever more outlandish excess of the flesh, each with a grain of truth attached. Joseph Mbatia Njoroge, known as Bertiers was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1963. He first used his artistic skills painting signs for local shops and bars as a teenager, after which he studied at the YMCA Craft Training Centre and began working professionally as a sign writer. His dissatisfaction with commercial sign-writing resulted in him producing a series of paintings entitled, 'Painting a cat. I really hate it.'
