About Joseph Weisman

  • Biography

    Born in Schenectady, NY on Feb. 17, 1907. Weisman settled in Los Angeles in the 1920s. He studied there at Chouinard Art School, Art Center School, and with Murphy, Hinkle, Barse Miller, Sheets and others. While working in commercial art, he continued to produce fine art. During WWII he was a technical illustrator for Douglas Aircraft Corporation; from 1946-49 he was a matte shot artist at MGM, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Brothers Studios. He was an instructor at Hollywood Art Center School in the early 1950s and retired from teaching in the Los Angeles public school system in the late 1960s. Weisman continued to be active as an artist until his death in Los Angeles on Sept. 19, 1994. His early works are depictions of broken-down bu
