"Joylene Reid Napangardi was born in 1967 in the community of Haasts Bluff, roughly 225 km from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. She is a part of the Tjukurla community in Western Australia. Joylene has been influenced by the elder artists in her community. She comes from a strong artistic lineage with her mother Walangkura Napurrula and father Kalara Tjapangati. Joylene primarily paints depictions of her sacred land known as ‘My Country’ and Women’s Business’. These artworks depict the sacred ceremonies conducted in Tjukurla and are usually an aerial depiction of her land. The colours used by Joylene often incorporate traditional ochre’s in conjunction with vivid oranges and blues, making for a contrasting colour palette.
