    Juan Antonio de Frías y Escalante, born in Cordoba in 1633, was a Spanish artist influenced by Venetian painters such as Tintoretto and Veronese. He studied under Francisco Rizi in Madrid and was known for his Baroque style paintings with religious themes, light, delicate brushwork, and theatrical compositions. Escalante died of tuberculosis in 1669 at the age of thirty-six, leaving behind a promising career.
