    Juan Barjola was a Spanish painter who flourished in the second half of the twentieth century. He was born in an unknown year and showed an early love for drawing. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Badajoz and later at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. Barjola produced academic works of a naturalistic style before moving on to post-cubist style and then a more constructive stage marked by earthy colors.

    He experimented with abstract tendency before returning to figuration and becoming the main Spanish representative of the New Figuration. Barjola's work was marked by thick and sumptuous impastos of sordid and dark colorations. He exhibited his work in Europe, Japan, the United States, and Latin Americ...
