About Juan Giralt

  • Biography

Juan Giralt was a Spanish artist who began his artistic career in the 1950s as a self-taught artist. He had his first individual exhibition in Madrid in 1959 and later exhibited at the São Paulo Biennial in Brazil and the Venice Biennial in 1965. He travelled to Paris in 1967 and later lived in New York for two years. From a formal point of view, his aesthetics evolved from the informal sector to pop art in the early 1970s and then back to informalism in the 1980s, combining the drip technique with collage. His works were selected for the Art Solidaritat exhibition in Barcelona in 1997 and some of his works belong to the collections of the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla.
