Juan Torres Calderon
  • Biography

Juan Torres was born in 1942. He is an outstanding portraitist and painter of customary themes whose style is under the influence of fovism and impressionism. He studied at the Popular School of Fine Arts of the University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo and was a disciple of Maestro Alfredo Zalce, who helped him with the execution of murals in Morelia. Between the 80s and 90s he made paintings related to the female figure, then he dedicated himself to shaping a series of heads with an almost ethnic style, then dabbled in the nude, in which he experienced the famous “contrapposto”, Italian term used to designate compositions of different parts of the human body causing certain movements that break the law of frontality.
