Eduard first studied sculpture with Albert Wolff at the Berlin Academy in 1835-40/41. As a result of the revolution in 1848, he returned to Berlin. In the 1850s, he undertook various study trips, such as 1850 to the Salzburg Alps and 1853 to Austria, Italy, and Istria (Pula).
