    Jurgen Runge is a North German painter who received a scholarship in 1948 from the state of Schleswig-Holstein to attend the art academy in Plön. He studied under Daniel Frettelier in Paris and was a master student under Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg. Initially creating naturalistic paintings, he later adopted an expressionist spatula technique with strong colors and powerful paint application. Runge focused on Holstein landscapes, nudes, and still lifes, influenced by Oskar Kokoschka.
